2011 Odyssey compared to the 2010 Odyssey

06/17/2010 - DENVER -

The all-new 2011 Honda Odyssey seeks to redefine the concept of the minivan with its aggressive stance and sporty "lightning-bolt" beltline. The lightning bolt not only provides an exclusive appearance, but also adds increased visibility for third-row passengers. New interior features add more convenience for families, while available entertainment technology introduces high-definition connectivity and split-screen viewing. Currently the best-selling minivan in the U.S., the all-new 2011 Honda Odyssey is set to go on sale this fall. Compared to the current Odyssey, the 2011 model's lower roofline (-1.6 inches versus 2010 Odyssey EX) and wider track (+1.4 inches) contribute to a sleeker, stronger and more dynamic presence with improved aerodynamics that help increase fuel economy and also translate into more interior width.

2011 Honda Odyssey soon to be released in the Jackson Mississippi market!

Introduction of the 2011 Odyssey from Honda.

The minivan isn't as popular as it once was, but it remains the quintessential form of transportation for families big and small. No other vehicle offers the type of versatility and space for kids and the copious amount of stuff that invariably comes along with them. The 2011 Honda Odyssey is a completely redesigned entry among this dwindling number of minivans, replacing a model that was widely considered to be the best in its class for a decade. In other words, it has some very big shoes to fill.

The 2011 Odyssey is an inch-plus shorter in height than before, but has gained an inch-plus in width, creating a slightly sleeker appearance aided by a wedge-shaped front fascia and unique "lightning-bolt" character line. Aside from being a design flourish, this character line also improves visibility for passengers in the third row of seats, who will also enjoy a greater amount of knee and shoulder room. Honda says three adults can sit back there, but we're thinking the middle spot's fold-down armrest will be utilized more frequently.

Minivans are renowned for setting themselves apart with never-before-seen features. Some, like the Odyssey's flip-and-fold third-row seat became an industry standard, while others, like the last Odyssey's middle-row Lazy Susan storage bin have been quickly forgotten. This time around, the Odyssey introduces a small refrigerated storage compartment beneath the center stack controls, a trash bag holder, second-row seats that shift laterally to make room for child seats and a wide-screen entertainment system with an HDMI input. The new Odyssey also improves upon previously introduced features, like a simplified process for lowering the third-row seat and an enlarged second-row removable middle seat.

Honda has not yet released full details about the 2011 Odyssey's powertrain, but we do know it will continue to only be available with front-wheel drive and a 3.5-liter V6. Honda's cylinder deactivation system is now standard on every Odyssey and fuel economy is estimated to be 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. This is a significant improvement versus the last Odyssey (especially those trims without cylinder deactivation) and better than the new Toyota Sienna's four- and six-cylinder engines.

More details about the 2011 Honda Odyssey will be coming soon, including available trims and equipment, as well as exact dimensions and specifications. Check back for a full review of how this new Odyssey stacks up against its minivan competitors before it hits dealerships in the fall.

2011 Honda Odyssey

The all-new 2011 Honda Odyssey is the ultimate minivan reinvented, re-energized and evolved. With its modern styling, spacious interior, and high-tech features, the new Odyssey almost demands a new category. Although it carries up to 8 passengers, there's nothing "minivan" about the Odyssey’s efficient-yet-sporty performance, available 10-way power adjustable leather-trimmed front seating, authoritative acceleration and all the thoughtful engineering you'd expect from a Honda. Of course, the new Odyssey pushes the tech envelope further with available features like a 16.2-inch dual-view-capable ultra-wide DVD Rear Entertainment System with HDMI input, and a premium audio system with 12 speakers. Everything is gracefully held together by a lattice of user-friendliness and simplicity—just load it with family and friends, gear up, and go.

The next generation Honda Civic will be even more futuristic

The next generation of Honda civic will be even more futuristic

As the time passes the faithful adepts of the Civic model are watching closely the news anticipating the new generation of the best-seller. In what ways will it change, in what ways will it be better? Will it continue to be a highly reliable and fuel efficient car equipped with a rather hot tempered power-train?

The new model of Honda Civic of the new generation which is scheduled to debut in a year or two will be more compact and will have an even more futuristic design than the previous model. This is the prognosis of the executive director of Honda Tzuneo Tanai as expressed in his interview to Automotive News.According to Tzuneo, the initial plan was that Civic was to be larger and more expensive than its predecessor, however after the thorough analysis of prognosis of prices for oil products, rolled metal products and other types of raw materials the decision was made to bring modifications to the project. Now the new model is aimed to become more compact, lighter and more fuel efficient. Besides that, the new Honda Civic platform will be initially adopted for the use of a hybrid power-train.

It is good to keep in mind that Civic platform is widely used by Honda Motor company and serves the basis for other models, such as crossovers CR-V and HR-V, a minivan Stream, and a compact FR-V. Presently Civic comes as hatchback, sedan and a coupe.
Honda’s new CEO Takanobu Ito states that the Japanese auto giant is “taking sufficient time to redesign the new Civic as well as all the other models”. Honda seeks way to make most of the research possibilities and seeks to comply with the possible changes in the environment. Honda is committed to reducing the size of its highly successful Civic model, but assures that the interior space and a sense of roominess will not decrease. A new futuristic Civic!? Why not!

Sisters celebrating. In lieu of presents, make a donation

You're never too old for birthday presents and birthday wishes. But Clinton resident Heather Boyte is turning the tables there.

Boyte, who on May 30 celebrated her 23rd birthday, is teaming with sister Tiffany, 20, to transform her party into an opportunity for gift-giving to the Children's Miracle Network and Special Olympics.

During the event, from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Bob Boyte Honda in Brandon, "Heather has asked that people come to her party for cake, ice cream and karaoke," said mom Tandy Boyte.

But the girls want those taking part to make a donation to either Special Olympics or the Children's Miracle Network in lieu of gifts.

Heather Boyte said she planned her party as a fundraiser because she wants to give back to her community.

"Instead of getting presents, I want to say thanks and to see if I can get things for these organizations, too," Heather Boyte said.

"I did Special Olympics when I was little, and that's what motivated me to do this."
As a grade-schooler, Heather Boyte excelled in Special Olympics sports including swimming, bocce, bowling and skating. Today, she's a Special Olympics ambassador, attending organization events and speaking publicly about its purpose.

A veteran pageant and Miss Mississippi participant, Tiffany Boyte is the reigning Miss New South. Clinton residents often see her and dad Bob on television commercials for Bob Boyte Honda in which they together yell: "Deal!"

Her pageant platform for several years has been raising awareness about the Special Olympics and encouraging donations to help support its programs.

"And, even before I was involved with Miss Mississippi, Heather and I both sang for a benefit for the Children's Miracle Network," said Tiffany Boyte, an Ole Miss student and talented vocalist. "We have learned more about CMN and volunteered for it. Heather really loves the idea of helping people."

The Children's Miracle Network is a national nonprofit dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children's hospitals. The Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is a member of the network.

Tandy Boyte said she and husband Bob took Heather to Dream Cakes on Lakeland Drive in Flowood to pick out a 1960s-themed cake for her party.

"Heather told them what she was doing for her birthday, and she asked how much the cake would cost," Tandy Boyte said. "The lady said she would be right back. She came back and said they are donating the cake because they were so touched by Heather's heart.

"Bob and I teared up."

Heather, too, was overwhelmed.

"I was so happy," she said. "It's a two-layer cake - vanilla on the top layer and chocolate on the bottom - and it's going to be covered in fondant."

She's hoping for a big turnout Sunday and lots of support for Special Olympics and the Children's Miracle Network.

The girls "want to come back and do this again next year," Tandy Boyte said.
"They want to make it really big one day."

Clinton sisters Heather (left) and Tiffany Boyte will celebrate Heather's birthday Sunday by hosting a party at Bob Boyte Honda. But in lieu of gifts, Heather would like the community to make donations to the Children's Miracle Network or Mississippi Special Olympics.
